Adolf Hitler, the leader of Germany in the 1930s, played a big role in starting World War II. Here’s how:
Hated the Treaty of Versailles: After World War I, Germany was punished with the Treaty of Versailles. It made Germany poor and weak. Hitler promised to make Germany strong again and ignored the treaty.
Built a Secret Army: The treaty banned Germany from having a big army. But Hitler secretly built tanks, planes, and weapons. Later, he openly showed his powerful military.
Took Over Neighboring Lands: Hitler wanted more land for Germany. He first took Austria in 1938 (called Anschluss). Then, he captured parts of Czechoslovakia. Countries like Britain and France didn’t stop him, hoping to avoid war (this was called appeasement).
